Prompts and Random Journal Day Linkup

With eyes wide open to the mercies of God, I beg you, my brothers, as an act of intelligent worship, to give him your bodies, as a living sacrifice, consecrated to him and acceptable by him. Don’t let the world around you squeeze you into its own mould, but let God re-mould your minds from within, so that you may prove in practice that the plan of God for you is good, meets all his demands and moves towards the goal of true maturity. (Romans 12:1-2 J. B. Phillips)

As I link up with Random Journal Day this month with Dawn and Susie, I wanted to share my newest journaling adventure! Since the beginning of February, I have been inviting others to discover their created self through journaling. I’m calling this adventure, 28 Days of Being YOU!

When I embrace who God created me to be, I am energized and full of His goodness.

On January 31st, I was journaling and thinking about the new month ahead. I had been following along with Root: A 30 Day Journal Project. The format and simple style of the “challenge” prompted me to spontaneously declare 28 Days of Being YOU! in order to think about who we are and to celebrate our created-ness. When we live out of our God-created identities, our lives overflow with His grace.

Even though it’s a week into the challenge, you can still join here. Once you subscribe, I will send you the first several prompts to your email and then you will receive the rest of the month automatically. If you want to be a part of this community of brave souls, including some of us who are messing around with mixed-media art journaling, I will add you to the private Facebook group as well.

There are three options to try:

Simply Write, where you just respond to the daily prompts in writing.

Tear and Paste, where you tear images and words out of magazines to illustrate your response.

Mixed-Media Mania, where you create art backgrounds for your written responses. (I am posting daily tips and techniques at souldare, my business website.)

Here’s an excerpt from one of the recent prompt emails, which was sent out to those who joined the adventure:

I was thinking about the word “prompt” today, I looked up its definition to seek a deeper meaning that I may have been missing.

Aha! One use of the word originates from the acting world. The stage manager gives prompts to an actor.

Here’s why: “to supply forgotten words.”

I believe finishing these journal prompts helps us to remember what we have forgotten about our true created self.

If this is a new practice for you, please be gentle with yourself. If you look at the prompt and nothing comes, just be with that experience. Sigh, if you need to or set a timer for a few minutes and then write. Setting the timer helps me know that I can stop; I don’t have to keep coming up with ideas. And most times what I need to know surfaces in the first few minutes of journaling.

Here are your prompts for today . . .

Journal Prompts: (Respond to as many or as few as you like)

I need . . .

I want . . .

I have . . .

I will use . . .

I hope you will join us over at Random Journal Day to share your journaling experiences and also join 28 Days of Being YOU! Even if you just save the email prompts for future reference. Happy Journaling!

  3. This journalling adventure sounds pretty cool. Romans 12:1-2 is a powerful way to enter into the idea of it as well, since it begins with giving our bodies–our whole selves–as LIVING sacrifices to God. I love that on the heels of that surrender we are transformed into our true selves, not conformed to the world’s likeness, but His. VERY powerful image of God stuff. Thanks. I don’t know that I’ll join you…I’m doing a joint journalling project with my husband right now (related to the word ‘surrender’), but I love what you’re doing.

    1. I think it’s wonderful that your husband journals with you! Yes we are transformed into His image because of His great mercy towards us! I look forward to more of your random journal picks…maybe you can share with us how the project goes with your husband! Peace and joy-Kel

I love a dialogue. Be the first to start a discussion!
