Be Dwelling

Let the word of Christ  dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom; and with gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God. (Colossians 3:16 NRSV)

I could be dwelling on the past, like how fast this month flew by and all the amazing adventures that I shared with the “ant kampers.” Last week, we entertained more mystery guests (aka friends, who joined us on our adventures.) We kept our morning routine most days.

One thing that surprised me this summer was how eager they were to memorize Bible verses. (We did have prizes like candy and little toys, however their enthusiasm was contagious.) I learned a new method for memorizing, too. You write the first letter of each word in the verse, as a way to recall the words. With washable markers, the kids had fun using their hands and arms to help.

I don’t know how they knew which letter came next, but their method worked!

Our last big adventure was to camp out in the backyard. We cooked hobo dinners on the grill.

After dinner, we put up the tent and air mattress and gathered our blankets and pillows, when the wind picked up. Rain started spitting on us and we jumbled into the tent just before the downpour. We dwelt together while comforting each other that the storm would pass. The littlest one eventually went inside to her own bed, and the rest of us watched a movie on my iPad. (I was too tired to tell ghost stories.) The rain stopped and we all slept (mostly) the whole night through, dwelling together in peace.

Today was kind of quiet, as they went off to another camp. But the memories of our times together will dwell in my heart forever.
