GOD+ART (DAY 24)

With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments. (Psalm 119:10 KJV)

Brother Lawrence speaks often of his thought life in regard to the practice of prayer and conscious awareness of GOD in all that he commited to do within a day.

Several times he mentions his own struggle with wandering thoughts, and is called upon to teach others how to rein them in towards GOD.

I will let him speak for himself:

“That . . . he had often passed his time appointed for prayer, in rejecting wandering thoughts . . .”

“I do not say that  . . .we must put any violent constraint upon ourselves. No, we must serve GOD in a holy freedom, we must do our business faithfully, without trouble or disquiet; recalling our mind to GOD mildly and with tranquility, as often as we find it wandering from Him.”

Often Brother Lawrence gently rebukes himself for wandering, and almost matter of factly states that when he was aware of a misstep, he would just admit it and turn his footsteps back to the path of GOD.

Let us be on the alert for wandering thoughts, and seek to live a life shaped by the Lord Jesus.

” . . . fitting every loose thought and emotion and impulse into the structure of life shaped by Christ. Our tools are ready at hand for clearing the ground of every obstruction and building lives of obedience into maturity”

(2 Corinthians 10:5 The Message)
