Gifts and Futures

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. (Jeremiah 29:11 KJV)

Today, I was drawn back to Honeymoon Island. The lover of our souls woos us to Himself. He thinks about us constantly and longs for us to experience not the peace of sitting on a beautiful beach, but the inner peace that assures us. We can expect a future that includes living with God forever.

I believe this “with-ness” begins when we recognize that Jesus was born to save us, to restore us, to remind us that we were loved before we were born.

I became aware of Jesus’ love at age five in a country church, where a sweet grandmotherly woman told us that Jesus died for each of us. That he rose from that death to secure our heavenly home. We could expect the future to be filled with streets of gold and mansions with many rooms and to live with Jesus forever!

This hope opened the way for me to understand and want to live my life with Jesus as my companion through all the seasons of my life.

No matter if I’m home where it’s freezing cold or here on the sunny beach, I enjoy His company.

Everything I have is a gift from God. To be on the mostly deserted beach munching granola bars was a feast in the presence of the Mighty one who made the seas and winds and trees and shells and my mind and the ability to ride my bike.

After my bike adventure on the wooded trails and picnic on the deserted beach, I rode over to the main beach and sat in one of the porch swings there. I wrote a letter to my future husband (Les) to tell him what I knew about us now and what I hoped for us as we enter the afternoon of our marriage, no longer newlyweds or even honeymooners, but two solitary people growing old together and with God.

Such gifts and futures can only be from the hand of the one who thought of us in the first place. I am deeply grateful.

I leave you with some photo gifts from today:
