Everyday Adventures {and RJD Link-UP!}

Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met. (Matthew 6:33 The Message)

“Happy Birthday!” I feel like Frosty the Snowman. I melted and then a cold blast of icy air brought me back to winter. But when I left Florida, I promised myself that I would bring the adventure back with me.

We have been home a week now. Last Friday around noon, we walked into our house and felt overwhelmed by the space. One morning this past week, I woke up and bemoaned the fact that I had to walk to the kitchen to make coffee. My husband asked if I wanted him to move the stove into our bedroom. I said that would be nice.

The past week has been spent unpacking, catching up with family and friends, and figuring out how to keep the adventure alive in everyday life.

So today, I moved our hammock into the house.

It barely fits, but I’m happy!

A little creativity and a lot of quirky go a long way with me. I have been occupying myself with things like baking bagels, running in the woods, house hunting with my mom, praying with friends, drinking coffee with Les, feeding the dog and squeezing ART into my spacious, but full schedule. (Click here for musings about my art journaling adventures.)

And I’ve been journaling in my new journals that look like a cassette tape and a tape recorder. In my journal, I have been wondering and processing how I feel about being home in the middle of winter, in the middle of son’s wedding plans, in the middle of my mom buying a house. (Which means she, my sister and the kids are moving a couple miles away, instead of around the block.) But I’m okay with all this, because God is in the middle of it all.

I see Him everywhere! Reassuring me that living a creative life is His design for me. Cheering me on in my pursuit to inspire others to live adventurous, creative lives that He created for them.

I am excited about teaching art classes and collaborating with other talented, gifted and loved friends and fellow sojourners this year. I am ready for the ADVENTures of our audacious GOD!

I am linking up with the wonderful adventure keepers over at Random Journal Day today! I leave you with some photo journaling. (Phototaking has become a new way for me to document the goodness of GOD in the land of the living.)

Very RANDOM post here, but I guess that’s what qualifies it for RJD!

  1. Looks like you have had so much fun! Love the one of you and your best friend in the hammock and truly I had to laugh at your first snow…where I live we have about four feet in the back yard and our boulevard, from street cleaning has at least a ten foot snow bank all along it! Oh, and its still snowing…I love it that you are letting loose on your creativity knowing it is an extension of HIM! God bless you!

    1. Jeannie-Thanks for stopping by! I have enjoyed meeting you through RJD…I love having FUN! And especially in winter…but most of all I love the adventure of seeing God in our every day lives…the ups and the downs… and resting in His everlasting arms that feel like swaying in a hammock.

  2. Kel: I love your hammock. If I was to have one in my home, I’d have to get rid of some of our furniture. I DO like it in yours. Blessings to you and yours.

    1. Thanks Cecelia…as you know I was looking for a hammock in Florida…but God waited til I got home to remind me that I could use mine indoors…I didn’t need to wait til summer…also I did get rid of furniture to fit it in the house…I gave two chairs and an ottoman to our younger son.

  3. Now that was fun! I LOVE the idea of a hammock in the house! Great way to enjoy winter, by pretending it really is summer. Life looks so much more interesting from a hammock. Blessings to you my friend. Sorry you had to leave Florida…you should have come by for a visit! We could have sat on the porch and had a cup of tea… or iced tea, before you had to go back into the cold! Sounds like you have a lot of interesting and exciting days ahead! Enjoy every one. God is blessing you and yours. This was refreshing.

    1. Pamela- I didn’t realize you lived in Florida or I would have taken you up on your invitation …we hope to go back again some future winter…what part of Florida do you live in? Yes I love to bring summer into my winter, but since I was away half of the winter it has been FUN to enjoy some cold days and a little snow…I may even go ice skating at the outdoor rink at Forest Park and bring along hot cocoa. I do love my hammock! And it makes me smile to just see it in our front room… I love people’s reactions to it when they stop by…oh, you have a hammock in your house 🙂 lol

    1. Thanks for stopping by Deanna! I love how we all share such a variety of topics each month…I promise next month to really choose something from one of my journals. Aren’t journals a great place to process life?

  4. Kel, yay! You’re back. And yay! your words were awaiting me in my inbox. Who knows why?! or rather, why I stopped rec’g them. Yet, I;m still not rec’g other loved blogs, so I need to get to the bottom on this. Our new computer, from where I write, is up and running. The other has bitten the dust. I love all you write and all your create, whether with paint or p;hotos. And I love how God is leading you to keep the adventure going straight through your ordinary round–though, of course, I know you see nothing ordinary abuot it. Enjoy life, words, and hammock-swinging. Can’t wait for a SB reunion.
    Love
    Lynni

    1. Yay! Lynni- So glad you have your new computer up and going! It’s good to be back and writing and sharing the joie de vivre that just flows out of knowing and loving Jesus! He is so good to us. I look forward to catching up in person soon!

  5. Two things:
You make BAGELS! Ours have always been flops. We’ve tried and tried. We just can’t figure out the secret.
AND, now I definitely want a hammock inside. I’ve been looking at them (to hang from the ceiling) for our little cabin in the woods, but the photo of you with your lovely pup convinced me. You look SO peaceful.
Your life–it’s a sweet one, whether on the seas or at home. Adventures with your names on it. I love how you look through the lens to notice the world.

    1. Carolyn- Yes, it’s a tradition of mine to make bagels on snow days…I found the recipe in a book called “Feed me, I’m yours” These ones are very simple and you boil them in water before baking them…I hope you get your hammock…I am loving mine and the doggy does like to jump into it with me…she’s a hoot!

  6. Seriously a hammock in my yard has always been a desire, but the hammock in the house just usurped that! LOve that …Oh, yes! Jealous. Love sharing your boat adventures and art adventures! ANd coffee pot in the bedroom, hush. My hubby would also love that idea. lol. You have a lot going on, and so many sweet pics to show. I will check into the timing of your next soul dare date. I still wish I could do an i person workshop that you hold. Who knows what the future holds?

    1. Dawn- Oh how I hope our paths cross inRL one of these days! I knew you would love the hammock idea! Post pics if you get one 🙂 I am thinking of another online souldare adventure, just not there yet….maybe a retreat some day in the future too…God has plans and of course one of these days we will get our little boat up near the Northeast coast…and your neck of the woods, I hope…love this RJD community!

I love a dialogue. Be the first to start a discussion!
